The College of Life Science, NTU was established in
2003, in response to the intensive and exciting developments
in life sciences in recent years. The college consists
of two undergraduate departments and seven graduate institutes.
The Department of Life Science lays emphasis on basic
biological sciences; whereas the Department of Biochemical
Science and Technology emphasizes biochemistry and its
applications. Together they offer a complementary yet
rich multidisciplinary undergraduate program in biology
to the students of NTU. The undergraduate departments
offer B.S. degree.
The Department of Life Science has 15 full time faculty
members (and growing), and is supported by faculty
from five graduate institutes: Institute of Zoology,
Institute of Fishery Science, Institute of Plant Biology,
Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Institute
of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The Department
of Biochemical Science and Technology has 18 full time
faculty members, and is supported by faculty from two
graduate institutes: Institute of Microbiology and
Biochemistry, and Institute of Biochemical Sciences.
The graduate institutes offer both M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
The undergraduate departments and graduate institutes
in the College of Life Science are a cohesive entity.
The faculty on both sides supports each other in teaching
and research. The unique scholarly partnership offers
the students, both graduate and undergraduate, unique
research atmosphere and learning environment.
